KEN AND JASMIN'S ROAD TRIP PROPOSAL AT A JAMES BOND FILMING LOCATION

Part of what makes my job so special is the opportunity for an epic road trip that leads to some incredible locations. Ken's proposal took around six months of careful planning, only for everything to get turned upside down the night before and the location completely changed! I'm always there to go through inspiration and ideas for proposal locations with the groom to be, but at the same time super flexible on the day itself in case a better opportunity pops up.

I still don't know for sure if Jasmin was too thrilled about me and another friend of ours randomly joining her and Ken for their trip out to the Scottish Highlands last minute, but it's safe to say she was glad we did once the day was over! One of the more unpredictable things with Scotland is the weather, and we passed a few locations on the way up to Glencoe that might have been perfect for Ken to pop the question, but thankfully the sun stayed out for just long enough - considering it was deep winter, and it had been gloomy and rainy in the days leading up to today, this was a miracle!

The drive from Edinburgh, our base for the trip, up to Glencoe is truly stunning, however as this had only been loosely planned in secret the night before, I was a little unsure of exactly where on the route would make the best place for the big moment. Months of planning to shoot in the Botanical Gardens of Edinburgh had to be forgotten about, and this was all about using our instincts to "feel" for the right spot to stop the car. That coupled with a whole bunch of made up secret code words and hand gestures between myself and Ken along the way!

It's so important to me that the couple I'm shooting actually gets time to enjoy and take in the experience of where we are or where we're going. Even though for this shoot Jasmin had no idea what was to happen in a few hours time, I made sure we stopped off whenever it felt like the surroundings were nice enough to get out and walk around a bit, and let the two of them be alone and enjoy the scenery together. Having no idea if or when the weather would turn made it a little tense as we got closer to Glencoe, as I wanted to be sure we got to a suitably beautiful location for the proposal itself, while at the same time still having the sun out!

Thankfully conditions remained incredible, and after around 3 hours of driving we entered an idyllic pass looking out over the mountains. I turned to Ken and knew immediately that we had hit the perfect spot for him to propose. We spent about 15 minutes just walking around looking out into the valley, and once I had found the best spot to put myself in for the shots, I gave Ken the signal, and a couple of minutes later he was officially engaged!!

It was made even more special by the fact that no one else was there or drove through for the time we were in that spot up until after he proposed, so it was perfectly intimate. Not even five minutes after proposing, while we were celebrating the moment with a glass of champagne, another car pulled up, and some Spanish tourists got out. As we told them the story of why we were there and that we'd randomly decided to stop right here, they told us that we had somehow managed to choose the exact location for one of the filming locations used in Skyfall, the Bond film!!! Coincidences like this only confirm in my mind that some things are just meant to be.

After driving around a little more and taking a few more portraits we packed up our things and headed back to Edinburgh via Glasgow, where we made one final stop off for a well needed and well deserved dinner. What a way to end an epic day!! Huge thanks to Ken for trusting me to capture the big moment, and to Jasmin for putting up with two straddlers for what was supposed to be a romantic road trip for just the two of them!
